Limbic System
You’ll be hearing me talk about the Limbic system here as I have seen it be one of the most critical parts in folks achieving their goals.
What is it?
The limbic system serves as the emotional control center of the brain (cue Inside Out montage), playing a pivotal role in processing emotions, memory formation, and regulating basic instincts like hunger and thirst. With structures like the amygdala, hippocampus, and hypothalamus, it forms a complex network that influences our behaviors and responses to stimuli. Think of it as the seat of our primal instincts and emotional experiences, guiding our reactions to both external events and internal states. This intricate system not only governs our emotional responses but also plays a crucial role in; shaping our perceptions of the world around us, highlighting its significance in our daily lives and overall well-being. Understanding the limbic system sheds light on how our emotions, memories, and instincts intertwine to shape our experiences and interactions with the world. Furthermore, our body’s capability to achieve healing states.
Due to the nature of modern-day society, most folks are experiencing an overactive limbic system. To make sustainable decisions that are healthy for us it is helpful to navigate from a space of wholeness rather than activation. It can be easy to make decisions from a space of restriction but we often can’t sustain those decisions for as long as we may need. When you rewire and heal the limbic system, you can flip to script- view the everyday choices that lead to health as nourishment and self-love.
To recap; healing the limbic system and disrupting the process of chronic stress you will:
improve your ability to sustain healthy habits
improve your relationship with self and your ability to identify your needs with proper cues (ie. hunger, thirst, cravings that aren’t due to emotional turbulence)
increase rest, heal, and regenerative states (this is when we give our bodies the chance to detox and protect itself)
That is the deeper work, but it’s worth it!
