Transitioning into Spring- Some Liver Lovin’
Liver Season, let’s talk about it!
Detoxification has become quite the buzzword in recent years. You can google detoxification and be overwhelmed with fad diets, green powders, supplements and so much more. Here at WellRooted I believe education is a right and health is done best when intentional and honored in everyday decisions. Please note, I am not a medical provider. Please speak with your medical provider before making major changes.
The liver, often hailed as the body's detox powerhouse, performs a myriad of essential functions vital for overall health. From filtering toxins and metabolizing nutrients to producing bile for digestion, its role is unparalleled. To holistically support liver function, focusing on a balanced diet rich in whole foods is key. Incorporating antioxidant-packed fruits and vegetables, such as leafy greens, berries, and cruciferous veggies, can help combat oxidative stress and protect liver cells from damage. I believe nutrition is an act of self-love, so when making changes we will practice the process of “crowding out”. This means slowly introducing things, in this case, nutrient-dense foods, while crowding out the sources of food that may be burdening our detox system. Through my training as a therapist, I have learned this approach is really helpful in healing our relationship with food and change, rather than demonizing decisions. This ultimately keeps us in restrictive mindsets and an activated nervous system.
Moreover, hydration is paramount for optimal liver health. Drinking an adequate amount of water throughout the day aids in flushing out toxins and promoting proper liver function. One of my favorite ways to ensure proper hydration is by drinking tea! I am a BIG tea girl. There is almost always a pitcher or pot of tea ready to be drank. Additionally, reducing alcohol intake and limiting exposure to environmental toxins can alleviate the liver's burden, allowing it to function more efficiently. Embracing stress-reducing practices like mindfulness, meditation, self-compassionate phone habits, and adequate sleep can also play a crucial role in supporting the liver's natural detoxification processes, promoting holistic wellness from within.
Furthermore, herbal remedies and supplements like milk thistle, dandelion root, and turmeric have been traditionally used to support liver health. These botanicals possess potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, aiding in liver repair and regeneration. Incorporating these natural remedies into a holistic approach to wellness can provide comprehensive support for the liver, ensuring its optimal function and contributing to overall vitality and well-being.
Don’t overthink it. As always, speak with your medical provider if certain herbs may interact with medications or conditions.
